The Ancient Gods, Part Two concludes the story of the great shooter Doom Eternal. Once again, it's against ancient gods and hordes of demons.
The Ancient Gods, Part 2 concludes the story of Doom Eternal with a duel against the Prince of Hell himself, who was revealed shortly before the credits rolled on the first DLC. On her way to becoming the Dark Lord, the Slayer makes her way across the reclaimed Earth, fights her way through hordes of demons to the World Spear, and finally dismantles the deepest circle of Hell with the energetic support of the Guardians' armies. It's all staged in eerily epic Avengers fashion.
In the second part of the DLC, The Ancient Gods, soldiers with indestructible shields and stone spikes not only encounter new enemies but also get another melee weapon, the Sentinel Hammer, which fits right in with the arsenal of glory killers, flamethrower, and chainsaw. This allows you to stun hordes of enemies with the Hell Mjölnir and even draw extra ammo, armor, or life energy when combined with the grenade launcher.
In addition, the hammer extends the vulnerability of Marauders and Armored Barons, who must also be wounded by a shot to a weak point on a green timer piece for their armor to briefly open.
But that's not the end of the new mechanics: two new enemy beasts bring more tactics to the battlefield. For example, there are now zombies that inflict buffs on all surrounding demons with their pained screams. So it's all about avoiding damage to these individual enemies when Dread Knights, Arachnotrons, and the like are around. In addition, the cursed lurker can inflict a curse on the slayer that massively limits not only her vision, but also her mobility, and it won't be lifted until you execute the agile bastard with a bloody blow.
Add to this the ghost-possessed demons from the first DLC and Doom Eternal's already extensive combat formula, and you get even more complex, brutal, and varied arena battles that add to the incredibly high standard of this exceptional shooter.
Conclusion
The Ancient Gods Part 2 is a brilliant conclusion to a great shooter. Id solved the main problems of the first part of the DLC, added some cool new mechanics, and distilled the formula of Doom Eternal to its essence one last time at the highest level. All the more disconcerting, after the three levels of epic battles filled with variations, is the strangely pale battle against the Prince of Hell himself, which somewhat diminishes the luster of this expansion. Still, if you liked Doom Eternal, you'll love The Ancient Gods Part 2. Better yet, id has already announced additional content for Doom Eternal.
